Results of the Sr. Spelling Bee

Thank you to Becky Eckerman and Haley Small for organizing the two spelling bees for our FHES Students!  Thank you to the students and the parents who help make this event a success.  The results are as follows:

FHES Snack Donation Program

Welcome back, families! For anyone interested in making a donation, we are currently collecting individually packaged nut free snacks to distribute to our FHES students in need.  If you would like to donate, please  send items to Mrs. Williams via the main office.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Williams at aywilliams1@fcps.edu.


Teacher Appreciation Lunch by 1st Grade Families!

Attention All 1st grade Families!  This month the first grade will host our February luncheon for teachers on Wednesday the 14th.  The theme for this month is “That’s Amore!”  Please sign up to make this a great success!!

We would also like to Thank the 6th grade and kindergarten families for Hosting last months “Ready, Set, EAT!” themed lunch.  It was a HUGE success and our teachers loved it!!

FHES Read-A-Thon

Coming Soon

 It’s time for Flint Hill’s 7th Annual Read-A-Thon!  This year’s theme is “Open a Book…and Start Your Adventure!”  Our goal is to encourage your student’s love of reading while raising funds for our school. The Read-A-Thon will run from Friday, February 16 through Friday, March 2. In the last FHES Read-A-Thon, students read 189,000 minutes.  Let’s encourage our students to surpass those minutes this year!

This year we will be taking our Read-A-Thon online.  Students will be able to build personal Read-a-thon pages to set their reading goals, record minutes read, and with an adult’s permission share with friends and family using social media, email or text. Those friends and family are asked to support the reader by making a one-time online donation.  The school receives 75% of all donations and readers keep 15% of what they personally raise to spend on prizes in our online prize center. Students who participate can also be entered in our three prize raffles.  To learn more about the Read-A-Thon, Click Here

Families choosing not to participate in the online Read-A-Thon, can still participate by requesting paper reading logs and pledge sheets for their student.

Girls on the Run is returning to Flint Hill!

Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a youth development program for girls in grades 3-5.  This program consists of a 10-week curriculum that teaches girls to be strong, healthy, and confident.  Practices combine an innovative and fun curriculum designed exclusively for pre-teen girls addressing topics such as positive thinking, peer pressure, body image, and healthy relationships.  The season culminates in a celebratory 5K open to friends and family.

Th spring season runs from March 5 to May 20.  Practices will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:308:30am.

Online registration for the Spring 2018 GOTR program has begun via www.gotrnova.org.

Update from the After School Programs

Thank you to everyone who has registered for the spring session of the Afterschool Programs.  The committee is happy to report that ALL of our spring classes will be held this spring.  All of our waitlisted students have also been contacted.  You will be receiving your confirmations along with class details this week.  The spring session begins the week of February 26th.  If you have any questions, please e-mail afterschool@fhespta.org.

Time to Choose A Country for International Night 2018!

  • Help bring the wonders of the world to FHES! We invite you to represent a country of your heritage or one you’ve always wanted to explore with an exhibit that has a craft and food. With the help of the FHES music teachers, students will sing and dance on stage with each grade giving an internationally-inspired performance! International Night will take place on Friday, March 16th from 6-8pm in the gym.
  • Please sign up early as it’s first come, first serve for country choices, and there are only 25 slots available!
  • To Participate:
    •  to register, please click HERE
    • 1) Deadline to choose a country is Friday, March 2nd. We are asking families to register through the Sign-up Genius. If you are interested in exhibiting, we recommend securing your spot early.  Be sure to double check that your first country of choice has not already been selected.  In years past, we have filled all available spots.  We encourage families to work together to maximize participation.
    • 2) Join us for an organizational meeting on Tuesday, Feb 20th at 6:30pm in the FHES cafeteria for an overview of the event.
