Welcome Back Flint Hill Families!

On behalf of the PTA Board, I would like to welcome back our returning families and Flint Hill staff and also extend a heartfelt welcome to our new Flint Hill famliies and staff members.  We look forward to making 2018-2019 another great year at Flint Hill.

We look forward to seeing you at Monday’s Open House and Back to School Presentations.  Please join us at the PTA Open House in the cafeteria were you can learn more about the Flint Hill PTA and several of our committees.  We will also have computers set up for those of you who would like to join the PTA at this time.

Also, please look for the PTA Welcome Back packets that will be in each of your children’s classrooms – it includes an events calendar for both August and September as well as the After School Programs catalog for the upcoming fall session and so much more PTA infromation – plenty of reading for these last few days at the pool!

Finally, I just wanted to let you know how excited I am for this school year.  My personal goal is to make this year about our Flint Hill community – let’s celebrate what a wonderful group of students, families, administration, and staff we have here at Flint Hill!

We wish you all the best for the school year and please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to help you!

Warmly,
Gayle Schlueter
2018-19 PTA President

Reflections: “Heroes Around Me”
Reflections is back for another year and we love to see what students come up with! Reflections is a nationwide program for promoting the arts while encouraging students to use artistic ways to express themselves.

This year’s theme is: “Heroes Around Me.” Artwork can include a variety of different mediums such as dance
choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, or visual arts.

Entries will be due in October, so there is plenty of time to participate. Reflections is open to all grade levels and all abilities. Information can be found HERE or
by contacting the chair, Jessica Moore at fhescomm@gmail.com with any questions.

If parents have experience in any of the art areas listed above and would like to be a judge, please reach out to Jessica (or reply to this email!)!

Join the PTA!

The FHES PTA focuses its time, energy, and finances on supplementing the school budget, supporting student enrichment programs, and promoting parent and community involvement. In order for us to be successful, we need the support and involvement of our families, faculty, and staff.

PTA members gain access to the online directory and weekly e-updates about all of the activities, programs, and events at FHES, all so you can get involved and stay informed.

To join the FHES PTA, please visit fhespta.org and click on JOIN, which will bring you to MySchoolAnywhere. PTA membership is $20 per family, and you must join the PTA each school year. All families joining the PTA this year will receive a Flint Hill notepad. Donations to the Friends of Flint Hill Fundraiser can also be made through MySchoolAnywhere when you join the PTA. Your membership dues and donations have a direct and positive impact on your children and our school.

Questions? Contact Mimi Tom at membership@fhespta.org.

Flint Hill Copying & Trimming – Volunteers Needed!

We are a multi-tasking group, tackling jobs to help free up a little bit of teachers’ time by helping with copying and lamination trimming. This is a great way to support our teachers and let them keep their focus on kids and learning!

You may sign up (via SignUp Genius) for as many spots as you would like (once a week, once a month, etc.), whatever works for your schedule. Training will be held for new volunteers as well as
for those who need a quick refresher.

Interested? E-mail Frances Ellis at fwellis@aol.com.

MySchoolAnywhere

The PTA is pleased to announce that MySchoolAnywhere (MSA) will now be our primary PTA/parent portal. Besides being our online school directory, MSA will be our 1-stopshop for our PTA events including: PTA membership, Afterschool Registration, and so much more!

You should have already received an e-mail asking you to update and confirm your information. If you are returning to Flint Hill, your login is your e-mail address. If you have forgotten your password, simply click “forgot my password” to retrieve it.

If you are new to Flint Hill, you can add yourself by going to www.join.myschoolanywhere.com

A Message from our PTA Special Needs Liaison

Welcome back to school Flint Hill Families!

Here at Flint Hill, we have children of different backgrounds and different learning abilities. As a no-bullying inclusive school, we hope to teach that while not all students are the same, they are each wonderful in their own way.

Our special needs liaison, Neera Datta, plans Inclusion Week in the fall and activities for Autism Awareness month in the spring. Fairfax County has many resources for special needs children and their families. We have links to some of these resources and groups on the special education page on our PTA website.

Please feel free to reach out to Neera (fhes.sped@gmail.com) if you have questions about these resources, or if you just need a friendly ear.
