Thank you for making Family Science Night a HUGE success!

Thank you to our Flint Hill community for making our first Family Science Night such a success.  Many of our families braved the very wet elements to come outu and learn about STEAM projects that ranged from dinosaur artifacts to simple machines and using slime to make music!  Many thanks to the Children’s Science Center for providing all of the learning stations and hosting such a fun event.  Many, many thanks to our volunteers, without whom Family Science Night would not have been possible!  Our volunteers included Oakton & Madison High School students as well as many of our Flint Hill staff members – we appreciate your time and effort – we could not have done it without you.

Grace Art Sign Ups for October & November
Our beloved Grace Art program returns in October!  Please see below for more information about our October & November Grace Art projects.  We love our volunteers – no art experience required!

Grace Art begins in October – all of our students will be creating artwork that will become part of Flint Hill’s float for the Vienna Halloween Parade.  Please refer to the following link for October’s class schedule as well as to sign up to volunteer HERE.

In the month of November, the featured artist will be Frida Kahlo and the students will be working on self portraits.  Please refer to the sign up below for the class schedule as well as to volunteer HERE.

Parent Coffee – Wednesday, October 3rd @ 9:30am at Panera Bread

Starting this month, the PTA will be holding monthly parent meet-ups on the first Wednesday of every month.  These meet-ups will rotate between the mornings and evenings throughout the year so that you can find one that accomodates your schedule.  These meet-ups are a chance for Flint Hill parents, grandparents, etc. to get to know each other, ask questions, share advice, and helhp our community grow together.  Some meet-ups will be casual, others may feature a speaker, who knows where this program will take us!

We will kick off with a parent coffee at Panera Bread this Wednesday, October 3rd, at 9:30am.  Please come in, grab some coffee, and join us for some fun conversation.

Any questions, please e-mail Gayle Schlueter at gschlueter5@gmail.com.

Cafeteria Food Donation Program at Flint Hill

Flint Hill ES is excited to partner once again with Food for Others, to eliminate the excess food in the cafeteria from being thrown away.  We are looking for volunteers to come to school and pack up the donations and deliver them to the Food for Others Pantry in Merrifield, VA. (located at 2938 Prosperity Ave, Fairfax, VA 22031)    https://www.foodforothers.org/

This is a great way to give back to the Fairfax County Community.  Please click on the link below for more information.   If you have any questions, please contact Amy Williams at aywilliams1@fcps.edu.  Thank you in advance for helping this program to be a success.

Reflections: “Heroes Around Me”
Reflections is back for another year and we love to see what students come up with! Reflections is a nationwide program for promoting the arts while encouraging students to use artistic ways to express themselves.

This year’s theme is: “Heroes Around Me.” Artwork can include a variety of different mediums such as dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, or visual arts.

Entries will be due Monday, October 22nd, so there is plenty of time to participate. Reflections is open to all grade levels and all abilities. Information can be found HERE or by contacting the chair, Jessica Moore at fhescomm@gmail.com with any questions.

PLEASE NOTE: Each entry submitted must have a flash drive with digital copy, including visual arts, photography, and literature entries (pdf), that should also include original/hard copy/print.

If parents have experience in any of the art areas listed above and would like to be a judge, please reach out to Jessica (or reply to this email!)!
