Bingo Night

Bingo night this year was a great success, we had 250 people playing bingo, many in costumes! They danced in between games, raffled off fantastic desserts, and won fabulous prizes like Legos, Nerf balls and I-tunes cards. Many enjoyed pizza and desserts in the cafeteria thanks to the SCA!  A special Thank You to Gizelle Gorkowski and Megan David for making this event happen. We also want to thank the SCA for all of their hard work and setting up the spectacular event.

Our next Family Fun Event is January 26, 2019 Skate Night at Reston Skatequest.  Hope to see you there!

Responsive Classroom Overview at Flint Hill ES

The FHES Counselors, Mrs. Williams and Ms. Lipton, are excited to host the first Parent Coffee of the year on Friday, October 26 at 9:30.  Ivette Robles, from FCPS will be giving an overview of the Responsive Classroom practice.  We hope that you will join us on this date in the library to learn more about Responsive Classroom and how you can implement the same practices in your home.   Please contact Mrs. Williams at aywilliams1@fcps.edu if you have any further questions.

2018 Vienna Halloween Parade

Flint Hill is excited to once again enter a float in the Vienna Halloween parade on Wednesday, October 24th.  This year the theme is Celebrating the Great Cities of the World.  Please click on the link to learn all of the details of the parade.  We hope that you and your family will join us for this exciting event!

Grace Art Sign Ups for November

Our beloved Grace Art program is back! Please see below for more information about our November Grace Art projects.  We love our volunteers – no art experience required!

In the month of November, the featured artist will be Frida Kahlo and the students will be working on self portraits.  Please refer to the sign up below for the class schedule as well as to volunteer HERE.

If you have any questions, please contact Angela Elmore at anghub@gmail.com.

Join Artsonia and See Your Child’s Artwork Online!

Our new art teacher, Mc. McAlister has introduced Artsonia, an exciting online digital art gallery that provides parents with access to their student’s artwork throughout the year.  In addition to viewing your child’s artwork, Artsonia offers families and friends opportunities to purchase quality keepsake items that earn money for Flint Hill!    For your child to participate in Artsonia, you first need to grant permission for the school to provide your email to Artsonia by using this online form.  After you have granted permission, you will receive an email from Artsonia to activate your child’s account.  Once the account is activated, parents can start viewing artwork as it is posted, and share it with family and friends!  For more information on Artsonia, please contact Ms. McAlister at sdmcalister@fcps.edu.

Reflections: “Heroes Around Me”
Entries will be due TOMORROW – Monday, October 22nd.  Reflections is open to all grade levels and all abilities. Information can be found HERE or by contacting the chair, Jessica Moore at fhescomm@gmail.com with any questions.

PLEASE NOTE: Each entry submitted must have a flash drive with digital copy, including visual arts, photography, and literature entries (pdf), that should also include original/hard copy/print.

If parents have experience in any of the art areas listed above and would like to be a judge, please reach out to Jessica (or reply to this email!)!

Join the Falcon 5K Sponsorship Committee!

We are looking for people to join the 5K sponsorship committee! It is a fun event that brings the school together and a great fundraiser.  There are co-chairs in place, so any extra help would be useful.  If you would like to help, contact Ellen Mek at  or Brian Merritt at flinthill5K@gmail.com .

Wheels to Africa Bike Drive

Madison High Schools Students for Environmental Action Club will be hosting a bike drive with Wheels to Africa on Saturday, November 3rd from 9am to 12pm, and would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word!

Wheels to Africa is a Northern Virginia-based non-profit that collects and repairs bikes to help those in Africa gain safe access to food, water, healthcare, jobs, and education. However, this year the bikes we collect will be distributed in Puerto Rico to help with hurricane relief, in partnership with the JJ Barea Foundation. Bikes will be accepted in any condition, but financial donations will also be accepted and appreciated.
