Dining For Dollars – Wednesday, March 6th


SAVE THE DATE!!!  

Flint Hill Elementary School’s 10th Annual Falcon 5K and Fun Run will be held on Saturday, May 4 2019.  Registration will open THIS WEEK.  Register before April 9th to receive a race t-shirt.  Stay tuned for more details.


International Night – Friday, March 15
Signups for International Night are closing on March 6 in order to prepare the passport/program for printing.  We still have space for additional countries to exhibit as well as individual performer slots.  Please don’t miss your chance to participate in this much loved school event that directly supports our music department!  Please visit the sign up link today, and contact Kristen Long at kristenahlong@gmail.com or Jennifer Taxson at jtaxson@gmail.com with any questions.


Spring 2019 After School Programs Registration starts next TOMORROW, 3/4!

There were 3 errors in the after school catalogs sent home on Tuesday:

  • Tennis will end on Tuesday, 4/9
  • The description for Money Matters was left in from the Winter 2019 session – it will NOT be taught this spring.
  • The description for My First Lemonade was omitted and is as follows:

My First Lemonade Stand (K-2):  New Course Offering!  Let’s sell lemonade! Join us for this fun class, where you will learn how to make yummy lemonade and how to earn money selling it! Fun sessions empower students with an entrepreneurial mindset for their lemonade stand. Students learn about marketing, finance, and strategy in a supporting environment fostering team work.  From designing marketing flyers to estimating profits to experimenting with recipes, young students will have fun while engaging in enriching activities with a lasting developmental impact. Students work in teams and donate profits to a charity when they launch their lemonade stand in the spring!  (Instruction provided by SPARK business academy)

Many thanks to all that participated in our first Box Tops collection

We collected more than 2,800 BoxTops!  Whether you submitted one Box Top or a hundred, know that every clip counts and turns into cash for our school. Keep collecting and keep us busy counting again at our next collection drive in May!

Show What You Know – Thursday, March 28th!
Classes will attend the Expo throughout the day on Thursday, March 28th.  Family and friends are invited to view the projects from 6-8pm during the evening of March 28th.

Does your child love Fortnite? Unicorns? Lacrosse? Dance? Art projects to share? We invite all of our students to show off what they know at Flint Hill’s Show What You Know. SWYK is Flint Hill’s annual learning fair where all K-6 students are encouraged to share your knowledge and interests with the Flint Hill community. PBL’s (Project Based Learning projects) done at school are welcome! Students can work alone or with a partner.

Please note that this is NOT a science fair (even though science experiments are welcome!). Projects will not be judged – this is an information-sharing event only. So, grab a tri-fold board, put some information together on your favorite topic (photos, drawings, etc), and VOILA! – you are ready for Show What You Know!!


2019 FHES Read-A-Thon Update

Open a Book…and Let Your Imagination Run Wild!

The Read-A-Thon was extended to Sunday, March 3 at 9:00 p.m. All reading sessions need tobe added by the new deadline to be counted.

Please note, students who are participating in the paper Read-A-Thon can use the extra pagesfor Saturday and Sunday. Please mark the dates accordingly. All deadline dates will stay the same.

RAT Bucks
Student readers who collected donations will receive 15% of their collected donations to spend at the Read-A-Thon online store. Your student must spend their RAT Bucks by Monday, March 11th. After the deadline, the Read-A-Thon keeps any unused RAT Bucks. The RAT Bucks do not get transferred to FHES.

How do I find the Online Store?
Click HERE. Log in as a Reader. Scroll down and click on the shopping
cart. In the upper right-hand corner, you will find your student’s total dollars to spend. All prizes will be delivered to your student’s classroom. Prizes will be distributed the week of March 18th.

Donations
Donations from sponsors can be accepted until March 10th online, ONLY. All cash and check donations need to be sent to school by Friday, March 8th. Please send the donation sheet and donations in an envelope with your student’s name, teacher, and “Read-A-Thon” written on the front. Please have sponsors make the checks payable to FHES PTA and put “Read-A-Thon” in
the memo section. Cash and/or check donations must be turned in by Friday, March 8th to the library for students to be entered in prize raffles.

Prize Raffles
Students who participated in the Read-a-thon will be entered in the raffles according to the below guidelines:

• Garmin Fitbit Tracker (for minutes read) – each student who read 200 minutes will get one raffle entry and earn another raffle entry for each 100 additional minutes read

• $25 Bards Alley Bookstore Gift Card (for minutes read) – each student who read 200 minutes will get one raffle entry and earn another raffle entry for each 60 additional minutes read

• Amazon Kindle Fire (for donations collected) – each student who raised $50 gets one raffle entry and earn another raffle entry for every $50 raised.

Raffle winners will be announced Friday, March 15th.
