Important Immunization Requirement: Do You Have a Student Entering Sixth Grade Next Year?

If yes, he or she may need a booster dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis). Sixth grade students cannot begin school in August without documentation of the Tdapbooster. Parents or guardians should ask their private healthcare provider, or the health department, to review their child’s immunization record if they are unsure if their child has received the Tdap booster. Students who have received a Tdap booster between the ages of seven and eleven do not need another dose.

Documentation must be provided to the school Student Information Assistant (SIA), Mrs. Shirley Eason.

Share This Information with a Friend or Neighbor!Kindergarten registration is upon us! We welcome parents of rising kindergarten students to register their child at their earliest convenience. This helps us get acquainted with our new students and allows us to have our numbers so we can best staff our kindergarten classrooms. Please don’t hesitate to share this information with a neighbor, friend, or colleague who lives within our boundaries. We want to ensure we get students registered as early as possible–in addition to registering for our Bridge to Kindergarten program this summer!

Parent Coffee THIS Thursday, May 9th!

Please join us for a Parent Coffee this Thursday, May 9th, at 9:30 am @ Panera Bread.  Grab a cup of coffee and a pastry and meet up with other parents to chat as the end of the school year is quickly approaching!

We hope everyone enjoyed the Falcon 5K and Fun Run on Saturday.  Thank you to all the participants who ran, walked and cheered on friends, family and staff.  A special thank you to:

  • Flint Hill students Tatianna McAleenan, Abby Garrod and Julia Murphy who did an amazing job singing our National Anthem
  • Ellen Mekhagnomdara and Brian Merritt who worked tirelessly to secure all of our sponsors for the event
  • Ryan Stille who Emceed the race with much enthusiasm
  • GrassRoots Fitness who led our warm-up to things started
  • Christie Vaudo who managed the positions of our many 5K marshals on the course to make the race safe
  • Corey Vaudo, Christie Vaudo and Cullen Taylor who marked the 5K race course very early Saturday morning
  • Cameron Glahe who coordinated and set-up the water stop on the course
  • Becky Eckerman for managing the medical tent
  • Sara Shepherd for handling our post-race snacks
  • Romy Duenas who helped with early set-up, clean-up and everything in between
  • ALL the amazing volunteers who helped before, during and after the race to make it possible!!

Congratulations to Mrs. Thurston and Mr. Henderson who were our 1st place teachers!

Order Your School Supplies NOW!

It’s that time of year again!  The 2019/2020 school supply kits are on sale now, click HERE.  Use code FLI018 to enter our school’s sale and be sure to purchase your student’s kit for their grade level next year.  Don’t delay, early bird pricing ends on the last day of school!  Kits will be delivered directly to your child’s classroom prior to the first day of school.  $5 from the sale of each kit will help to fund the PTA, which in turn supports important school programs that touch every student.

Today is the LAST DAY to Order for Mother’s Day!

Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-10)

Our theme this year is Hollywood.  We will be rolling out the red carpet for our super star teachers and staff.

 The PTA has planned the following school-wide events for the teachers & staff:

Monday (5/6) – PTA Snack Bar of the Stars (Donations needed, Sign-Up Genius Coming soon) Snacks to be available Monday through Wednesday

Tuesday (5/7) – Administration/Office Gifts to our Shining Stars

Wednesday (5/8) — SCA hosts Breakfast & cookie treat from PTA (made by Megan David) in mailboxes

Thursday (5/9) — PTA Luncheon (Italian Gourmet)

Friday (5/10) — PTA Smoothie and Dessert Bar

Hall of Fame Raffle Monday through Friday, with grand prize raffles for our Spotlight Winners announced Friday.

Room parents will be reaching out to their classes for grade wide activities they have planned.

Star Notes to Teachers

Students can start bringing in their stars to school starting Monday, April 29.  Students can draw and/or write a message to their teacher(s). Don’t forget our specialists! Baskets will be near each classroom door to drop off any stars for their classroom teacher or other teachers in the building.  Stars will be collected through Monday, May 6.  Extra stars are provided in each basket.

Community Information 

Amanda Leckner and is a student at Oakton High School.  For her Gold Award Project she is hosting a free one-day Korean Language and Culture Camp called K Camp. She decided to create this camp because she believes young students should be more globally aware and wanted to give them an opportunity to do so.  It will be offered it to Rising 5th and 6th Graders. It will be held at the Oakton United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 26th.  For more information, click HERE.
